Felt Roofs

Professionally Installed Felt Flat Roofs

Felt roofs are inexpensive, flexible and quick to install… perfect for your flat roof solution.

At Blackpool Industrial Roofing, our preferred method for felt roof installation is torch-on. This method, is a quick and easy application which is ideal for a quick completion. The bitumen activates when heated with a torch. It can then be rolled out directly into place.

At Blackpool Industrial Roofing we follow strict health and safety procedures. We use the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) – Safe2Torch guidance when we install Felt roofs using the Torch-on method.

At Blackpool Industrial Roofing, we try to offer a product which the suits the client. We like to keep risks to a minimum, for the client and our team. For the replacement of most old and failing felt roofs, we can recommend a flame free liquid or membrane product.

On occasion, the specification may not be suitable, for example: A Listed building or conservation area. For this we prefer to use a self adhesive felt system. This system incorporates the traditional bituminous material, but utilises modern methods of self adherence to the chosen substrate, be it concrete/timber or even insulation.

It’s not unusual for problems to arise with older flat roofs caused by general weathering and wear, storm damage or deterioration as it ages. As experienced felt flat roof installers we are familiar with common problems and the techniques and skills required to fix felt covered flat roof problems.

Felt flat roof Installation

Our felt laying method is designed for optimum durability and leak resistance. Our flat roof felt is made from high quality polyester with torch-on felt. We lay our felt flat roofs using a three layer method. The first layer is nailed down, and then two further layers are torched down using a cross bonded pattern. This flat roof laying technique provides maximum strength and leak resistance. The felt we use on our flat roofs comes in a variety of colours and finishes.

Self adhesive systems are ideal for use as:

  • New Build or Refurbishment work
  • A fully or partially torch-bonded waterproofing for flat or pitched roofs
  • Sites where NO TORCH works are permitted

Felt Flat Roof FAQs

What is self-adhesive felt?
Self-adhesive roofing felt doesn’t require a gas torch so minimises the risks of traditional hot works. Surfaces are primed with appropriate primers and the two surfaces put in contact creating a bond. All laps and seals are then hot air gun welded which is a frame free method of sealing the laps.

We carry out works in Lancashire, The Lake District and all over the UK.

As Torch-on membranes are thermoplastic, i.e. they soften with heat and harden with cold, the choice of membrane for your area is important. There are dozens of membrane types available to suit from -20oC up to +50oC. almost all APP or SBS modified Torchons will provide excellent performance. Mineral surfaced membranes provide the best protection against UV.
